Camp Bonaventure opened on June 6th for the first week of the 2011 season. The fishing season actually opens on June 1st but we open the camp a week later just to be sure there are fresh salmon in the river when our first guests arrive. Conditions were tough for the first four or five days with higher than normal water levels with less than normal underwater visibility. On Thursday and Friday we started seeing good numbers of fresh in our lower pools. For some reason they were not easy to catch, perhaps the cooler water. Fishing turned on Saturday and Sunday, all our guests all caught and released fresh salmon. The largest fish was a 21 pounder caught by Mr. Brian Clark, Brian also landed three others and lost one more. All our guests landed salmon on Saturday and Sunday.
The hot fly’s this past week have been the “Sun Ray Fl. Green and Silver Stoats Tail” The full moon is on the 17th and the high tides begin on the 13th, we should be seeing a major run starting over the next few days.
