Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming the Salmon Sisters back to Salmon Lodge, hosting trips with Henrik Mortensen at both Camp Bonaventure and Salmon Lodge, Camp CrookBerg at Camp Bonaventure, and The ASF at The Club on the Bonaventure along with so many of our favourite people returning for their annual time on the rivers.
Year after year, these traditions, these friendships, these stories and new memories are such an important part of life at 3Camps.
July was a treat! Dry fly action was in full swing, and the weatherman delivered. Some days were warm, a couple days were hot/humid, but that sun enjoyed playing hide and seek with cloudy skies and our evenings cooled everything down perfectly. Oh, and get this, when rain was promised, it rained! The perfect recipe for healthy rivers and happy guests.
Let’s review our river levels for the final two weeks of July, spoiler alert, a few welcome periods of rainfall brought modest bumps to all three rivers.
The ever-clear Bonaventure River began flowing at 16.71 cubic meters per second. After dropping through the week, rainfall brought her back up from 13.5 to 15.40 cubic meters per second on July 20th. From there, the Bonaventure River finishing the month at 10.05 cubic meters per second. The Petite Cascapedia followed a similar pattern, beginning at 15.64 cubic meters per second mid-month before receiving a welcome bump from 13 to 15.97 on July 19th. As the month came to a close, she settled to 10.69 cubic meters per second.
The Grand Cascapedia began flowing at 18.55 cubic meters per second. Following rainfall, she rose to 22.63 cubic meters per second on July 20th before dropping once again. Another bump brought her back to 22.57 cubic meters per second on the 23rd, before she gradually settled and finished the month flowing at approximately 13 cubic meters per second. These river levels for the closing of July are comfortable and (not to compare) but double and if not, more the levels we experienced last season.
The most productive flies this week were once again a nice mixture of dry and small wet flies. Green and Blue Bombers were responsible for most of the salmon landed. In the wet fly department, Green Machine, Black Bear Green Butt, and Stone Ghost were the winners!
Two months down and two more to go! There is still so much of our 2026 season ahead and some very fun adventures to come! As we move deeper into summer, we look forward to more dry flies, more silver flashes, salty waters, seasonal changes and so much more! Stay tuned!
