As we find ourselves midway through July, it is hard not to pause and appreciate just how fortunate we have been this season. The rivers are healthy, the weather has been cooperative, and perhaps most importantly, our Atlantic salmon continue to return to the waters we cherish so deeply.
Over the past few weeks, we have enjoyed a wonderful stretch of fish-friendly conditions across the Bonaventure, Grande Cascapedia, and Petite Cascapedia. Water levels have remained favorable, temperatures have been kind to both anglers and salmon, and each day on the river has brought new opportunities and lasting memories.
One of our greatest joys of this season has been welcoming back so many familiar faces to Camp Bonaventure, Salmon Lodge and The Club on the Bonaventure. There is something truly special about seeing old friends come home, share stories, laughs, and a passion for these rivers that connects us all.
At the same time, we have had the pleasure of introducing several first-time anglers to Atlantic salmon fishing. Watching someone experience their first cast, their first rise, and ultimately their first Atlantic salmon is a privilege that never grows old. Guided by our dedicated team who take great pride in sharing not only their knowledge of the sport, but their love for these remarkable rivers. To witness the excitement, emotion, and accomplishment is an honour.
Life around the lodges has been equally rewarding. Shared meals, birthday celebrations, anniversaries, and friendships both old and new continue to remind us that the 3Camps experience is about far more than fishing. It’s about the people, the connection, disconnecting from the everyday and cherishing what we sometimes take for granted.
With clear water and current conditions, the salmon have been quite fond of the Stone Ghost, Green Machine, Whatchout and Undertaker. It is also that time of year for our dry fly fishing to take off! Bombers, browns, Labatt blue and greens in colour with a little sparkle are catching the salmon’s attention! Few experiences compare to watching an Atlantic salmon rise confidently to a dry fly, and the first half of July has offered plenty of those unforgettable moments.
