River Report

Camp Bonaventure Fishing & River Report July 20th to July 26th, 2020

I am very happy to announce that it was yet another wonderful week in Camp! Salmon Lodge had the honour of hosting the Salmon Sisters for yet another year and Camp Bonaventure had the honour of hosting a great mixture of new guests as well as Fred Campbell from Hooke and his wonderful mother Monique. The week started off strong with rain on Sunday evening that helped freshen up the rivers and the promise of more to come throughout the week. Unfortunately, the rain promised was not received but that didn’t seem to hinder our fishing!

A first time Camp Bonaventure Guest, Dominic Savard couldn’t stay long but made every moment count! It was so nice meeting you Dominic, Congrats on that beauty!

The Bonaventure river delivered some great fishing this week! It began its week flowing at a comfortable rate of 13.2 cubic meters per second and finished the week at 10.3. These levels are average for the end of July and the beginning of August but a couple days of rain would definitely sweeten the deal!

We had the pleasure of welcoming the Bourget Brothers for the first time at Camp Bonaventure this week! What great gentlemen! Congrats Rejean on your grilse!

The Grand Cascapedia received the biggest bump in water from the rain received last Sunday. It wasn’t drastic, but allowed the river to begin its week in the 20+ cubic meter per second range and got the Salmon excited! As the week progressed and the temperature/humidity rose, the water levels dropped back down to end the week at an average 12 cubic meters per second.

Stephane Bourget has got the skills! Congrats on your beautiful salmon landed! You were a joy to have in Camp!

The Petite Cascapedia continues to spoil us this season every chance we get to fish it! The Petite began its week flowing at 9.7 cubic meters per second and ended at 7.8. These levels are low for the moment but we are told that some rain is in our forecast! Let’s hope these aren’t empty promises.

It was an honour to have Fred and his mother Monique as our guests this week at Camp Bonaventure! Thank you for making us part of your memories!

The Salmon’s fly preference this week was once again small tube flies, some small wet flies but mostly dry flies! Light Blue or Brown with a green butt bomber patterns are catching the salmon’s attention. Small Silver Rats, Black Bear Green Butt and Stone Ghosts also seem to be a preference. But that’s all the secrets we’re sharing for this week!

Stay safe & Tight Lines,

Julia
