Camp Bonaventure Fishing and River Report, September 18th to 24th, 2017

Its officially Autumn but the weather this week felt mote like mid July. Thankfully we received some rain early in the week which kept our rivers in pretty good shape. It was a warm one as temperatures climbed to the mid 80’s by mid week .

Fishing was challenging this week with rising water on Monday and Tuesday and hot and sunny for the rest of the week. We did however manage to land several nice salmon and a number of grilse. We are seeing a few fresh salmon coming in with our fall run but we’ll need another good rain to get things really moving.

Both the Bonaventure and Petite Cascapedia are low but we did get a small bump in water at the beginning of the week. The Bony rose from 10 Cubic meter per second to 12 and the Petite from 10 to 13. The Grand Cascapedia received more rain and jumped from 16 to 22 but fell quickly by mid week.

The warm weather is allowing us to keep fishing with drys and a good number of the fish we landed we on bombers. Wet fly’s are producing well especially our regular fall patterns, the Red Francis, General Practitioner and Alley Shrimp were the big winners.

Here's why we like the Red Francis so much.

We are entering into our last week of the season, lets hope we end with a bang!

Until next week,
