River Report

Salmon Lodge Fishing & River Report June 13 to 19, 2016

The rain has finally stopped and the sun is shining! The first two weeks of the season have been challenging to say the least, plenty of rain, high water and miserable conditions plagued us for the past two weeks. I’ve been on these rivers for 36 years an have never seen an early season like this. If it takes another 36 years, I won’t we around. LOL

The Rivers are clearing well and falling to fishable levels. With a good number of fresh salmon in the river and more coming on every tide, fishing’s has been productive.

The Bonaventure is still high but falling quickly, the level and clarity is improving every day. The Petite Cascapedia didn’t receive all the rain and levels and conditions are perfect for this time of the season. June 15th was opening Day on the Petite, and again this year it didn’t let us down! The Grand Cascapedia if fishing very well, all of our guests caught fresh silver salmon this week, needles to say we have a camp full of happy fishermen.

Next week’s full moon will bring us some of the highest tides of the season and hopefully big a  run of fresh fish. I’m sure dry fly’s will become very popular in a hurry!

Fly’s of choice have been the Nagli, Silver Rat, Stone Ghost and the Picasse in Sizes 2 and 4. Spey fly’s have also been working well in sizes 1.5, 3 and 5. The Green Spey, Picasse and Jones Special have been worrking, fish have also been taken taken on the Magog Smelt and Willie Gunn. Sorry nothing to report on dry’s yet, still too high and cold.
