River Report

Camp Bonaventure Fishing & River Report, Sept 4th to 10th, 2017

September is by far my favorite time of the season, water temperatures are perfect and we always receive just the right amount of rain the keep our rivers at perfect shape. Some years the rain comes in late August while others in September. To be honest, this year I was wondering if it would come at all. Thanks to Hurricane Harvey we did get the rain we needed.  Our pools are loaded with salmon and the rain really turned on the fishing, especially towards the end of the week.

All our rivers have a fresh new flow of cool clear water. The Bonaventure went from 7 cubic Meters per second to 14.  The Petite Cascapedia from 8 to 15 and the Grand Cascapedia from 10 to over 100! The Grand rises quickly but falls at the same rate.

September fly choices are different from any other time of the season. The Red Francis is always the fly of choice this time of the year , this year’s no different. Along with the Red Francis the Alley Shrimp and GP are also doing well.  As long as our water temperatures stay in the 50 degree range, dry fly’s will continue to produce. Other hot fly’s were the Blue Charm, John Olin and Stone Ghost. As always, Green, Brown and Blue bombers were the hot ones.
