River Report

December Report – Camp Bonaventure

It just seems like yesterday when we were casting dry fly’s and sights
casting to silver salmon in crystal clear water. How time passes so quickly.
We had a normal autumn on the Gaspe peninsula with average precipitation and
above average temperatures, seemed like a long extension to  summer. The
water levels were perfect for spawning salmon and with the great season we
had there were plenty on the redds. I stopped on several occasions just to watch them spawn , the water was extremely clear this fall, it was like looking through a window.
As I mentioned the temperatures have been above normal all fall, 10 to 15
degrees according to environment Canada.  I am sure winter is just around
the corner but at the moment our rivers are free of ice and still look like
the end of October.

Dec 8th, 2016 No Ice yet on the Bonaventure, hard to believe.

The guides have been making  regular visits to the lodge showing off their
hunting photos, looks like everyone was successful in their pursuit of moose
and deer.  Mario didn’t get his moose or deer this year but there were
plenty of stories why he didn’t! Not his fault of course it all had to do
with the warm  weather, lack of rainfall, the full moon etc….  lol

From the deck at Salmon Lodge, the Grand Cascapedia is just starting to show a bit of ice on tits banks.

At Camp Bonaventure we have completed our new addition to the rod room
building, we added a storage room, bathroom and changing room. It looks
great and will be very convenient for those who wish to shower before
leaving on their last day.

Both lodges are almost fully booked 2016 and we are looking forward to
seeing you all again, hopefully 2016 will be as wonderful as last season.
We still have an opening here and there if anyone is still looking for
dates. From all of us at Camp Bonaventure and Salmon Lodge, please accept our
wishes for a very Merry Christmas and health and happiness in the New Year.

Tight Lines ,

Glenn
