After a very quiet week at Salmon Lodge and Camp Bonaventure it feels great to welcome guests back to camp! We had the pleasure of welcoming returning friends we’ve missed last year due to Covid travel restrictions and new friends that have been patiently waiting for our 2021 season as Covid made their trip impossible last year.
August has made its debut and mother nature realized that she forgot to bring the heat! We were having such fresh weather up until this week. Our lovely 20-degree Celsius days have jumped to 30+ and the humidity is back in town! Honestly, the weather received this past week may not be our preferer or ideal weather for fishing but we casted through it and had made some wonderful memories!
Our rivers are beginning to need some rain. We are considered, at this point, within average but in low water conditions. We experienced a great thunder storm Saturday evening that gave a little boost to all three rivers. The Bonaventure River began her week flowing at 9.05 cubic meters per second and ended at 10.22. The Petite Cascapedia River began her week flowing at 11.81 and is now flowing at 13.36 cubic meters per second. As for the Grand Cascapedia River, she began and ended her week flowing in the 18.5 cubic meters per second range.
I think it is safe to say that all our salmon landed this week were on small wet flies. Light Blue patters with some white touches, Light brown patters with a green butt seem to be the salmon’s fly of choice.
Until next week, here’s to health, happiness and tight lines
