Salmon Lodge Fishing Report – June 3rd to 9th, 2013

Its been a great week at Salmon Lodge. Our annual Spey Casting and Atlantic Salmon fishing School again was a great success! Topher Browne and Greg Pearson are among the best spey casters in the world and we are pleased to have them host this wonderful week.  The great thing is they have agreed to do it again next year, so if you are interested in joining us sign up early!

Water conditions for the first part of the week were running high and dirty. By Wednesday things had improved and started to clear. When we thought conditions were getting better the rain came once again and we were back to square one. The good news is we are getting a nice first run of bright salmon. The first run usually heads straight up to the top of the river. High, stained water made catching a challenge but perfect for Spey casting.

Now for the good news, we did manage to land a few nice fish and unfortunately loose a few as well. The first to hook up for this season was George Kampouris from Montreal. George has a big salmon on but the hook pulled out after a few minutes.

George Kampouris plays a big Grand cascapedia salmon!

Dan Greenberg from Ottawa was the first to land one for 2013, a strong 10 pounder full of sea lice. Ken Richardson from Kamloops, BC took its twin from Gordon pool the next morning and another nice fish on Friday, congratulations Ken and Dan.

This week’s hot fly’s were the Out To Lunch, Green Spey and Picasse, all tied on number 2/0 singles.

The weatherman is calling for rain this weekend and a bit more on Tuesday, lets hope not too much. If we have good water conditions next weeks fishing should be good.

Tight Lines,

Glenn
