River Report

Salmon Lodge Fishing & River Report, August 28th to Sept 3rd, 2017

It’s hard to believe that August has already come and gone and we ‘re into September already.  August provided us with some fine fishing, we experienced a mixed bag of conditions but overall our fishing held up very well. The lack of precipitation this summer was the biggest factor and gave us low water,  the lowest I’ve ever seen im my 37 years on these rivers. We are fortunate however to have another wonderful run of salmon and our pools have plenty of fish.

Louis Esposito with his first Atlantic salmon, congratulations Louis, hopefully the first of many.

Bonaventure is low but has plenty of water for our fall run fish to enter. We are seeing a good number of bright silver fish in our pools and fishing has been pretty good. The water temperatures in the Bony are perfect in the 50 degree range. The Petite Cascapedia is also experiencing low water but like the Bony its running cool.  The Grand Cascapedia is also getting a nice fall run, the water is low but we’re still catching some fine fish.

Francis Dhobb is no stranger to Salmon Lodge or salmon fishing, nice one Francis see you next year.

The weather man is calling for rain , Monday through Thursday is supposed to be wet, with a couple of inches on the way. I think they should hang the worst weather man once a year, give the others some incentive, lol

We are beginning to use our fall patterns and colours , the Red Francis, Alley Shrimp, General Practitioner and Purple Grape,  Dry’s continue to be responsible for most of the fish landed, Brown, Green and Blue Bombers.

Until Next Week,

Tight Lines,
