It seems just like yesterday that I was writing the final fishing report of the 2015. The leaves were in fall colours and the air was cool. Time passes quickly and here we are, all ready for our 2016 season to begin. We’ve been very busy preparing the lodges for opening day. The ladies have been working in the lodges while the guides have been putting the canoes in the river. Troy’s been doing his magic and getting the grounds at both lodges “just perfect” as he always does.
Water condition are perfect for this time of the season, a little on the high side but running cool and a bit stained. The weather man is calling for a considerable amount of rain over next week, always good to maintain water levels, but lets save a bit for later this summer. The Bonaventure is flowing at 75 cubic meters per second, The Grand Cascapedia at 95 and the Petite Cascapedia at 60. Between 50 to 70 millimetres of rain are expected between today and Friday. The high tides between June 4th and 11th combined with plenty of rain should be great for the first fish of the season.
The first week is always a exciting, everyone is looking for that first big fish of the season. This time of year we are fishing our high water pools from top to bottom, you just never know where a fresh salmon will be holding.
Salmon Lodge opens on June 5th. Again this season I will be posting river and fishing reports every Sunday, check them out.
The best fly’s for early season are big and bright, sorry but not time for dry fly’s yet.
Tight lines,
Glenn
