River Report

The Club’s Fishing & River Report June 15th to 21st, 2020

Welcome back everyone to what we hope will be another great season at The Club, Salmon Lodge and Camp Bonaventure. This season will without a doubt be very different from all others with the Covid-19 pandemic still fluid in the world and many travel restrictions and quarantine controls in place. To all of our dear friends, that feel more like family, that cannot get to us this season, we wish you all the very best and we look forward to seeing you next year. Please know that you will be truly missed by us all. Our teams are thinking of you and we wish you all a safe and healthy 2020 season.

Congrats Dan on yet another great catch on the Bonaventure!

As our spring began to roll around this year our rivers were flooded with moderate amounts of rain on cloudy days and melting snow on the hot sunny ones. Our spring was a healthy mixture of cool rainy days, followed by a reminder of winter’s cold front and then a surprise tease of what summer’s heat has to offer. Our rivers began to take shape the last week of May and spoiled us with beautiful water conditions for the first few weeks of June.

So nice to have you in camp Jim! Great Catch!

We opened our season at the Club on June 14th this year and had the pleasure of welcoming our ownership group and a couple dear friends. The Bonaventure river was in prime condition and spoiled everyone with a wonderful week of fishing! The Bonaventure river began its week flowing at an average of 28 cubic meters per second. As the week progressed and our mid-days treated us to tropical heat the Bonaventure river dropped and ended the week at approximately 20 cubic meters per second. These levels are a little below average for this time of year but in combination with the heat and clear days made for some great dry fly fishing.

Peter Bennett landed this silver beauty on the Bonaventure River! Nicely done Peter!

The Salmon’s choice of flies this week seemed to be Green, Dark Brown or Blue Bombers. In the wet fly department the salmon seemed to be most attracted to Stone Ghost, John Olin and Green Highlander.

Can anyone think of a better way to spend their day?

At this time, I would like to thank everyone for their patience, acceptance and understanding as we venture into our new normal. We do not take for granted how fortunate we are to have our camp family composed of the most wonderful guests, guides, lodge staff, management team and ownership group. Here’s to our 2020 season.

Stay safe & Tight lines,
