The second week of the season has come and gone and despite low water conditions for this time of year fishing has been great! Fresh Salmon are entering our rivers on every tide. With lower than normal water levels, fish are heading straight up river to the upper sections. We have been doing very well on every stretch of the river from our lower pools to the top of the river. We took our first salmon on a dry fly this week as well as our first grilse of the season. The “first grilse of the year” award goes to Maitland McLean of Aberdeen, Scotland, If I remember correctly, this is not the first time Maitland caught our first grilse.
As for our rivers, the Grand Cascapedia is very low at the moment, especially the branches where we generally have some fantastic fishing at this time of the season. The Petite Cascapedia opened on Friday, its a later river than the Grand and Bony but gets a nice run of big salmon. Our guides saw fresh salmon in many of the pools which is a bit early for the Petite, good sign.

The hot fly this week has been the Nagli (I bet many of you are asking, what the heck is that?) , Well you’ll have to come to see us if you want to know! The Blue Charm, Black Bear and Undertaker also worked very well. Dry’s doing the trick are of course the brown and green bombers.
Lets hope mother nature sends us some rain, we can really use it.
