It was yet another wonderful week to be in camp and on the river! The salmon were excited and active, the food was mouth-watering, the rivers were in good condition and we were all in superb company. We had the honour of welcoming two new groups this week! Both groups were a great mix of beginners and masters of the sport.
The weather this past week was a mix of everything. We mostly started off with fresh (almost) fall like mornings. Some afternoons were sunny, some were casted over and others produced a fine wind and a couple drops of rain depending on your location. The evenings are now cool and breezy, which is working wonders for our rivers. August was a hot and humid month and the cooler weather and water temperatures are much appreciated!
The Bonaventure river is as beautiful as ever and still producing some great salmon this week. It was flowing anywhere between 8 and 9 cubic meters per second as the week progressed. We’ve had a couple very cool nights/mornings closer to the end of this week that helped maintain our water temperatures around the 55 degree range in all three rivers.
The Grand Cascapedia was flowing at a rate of approximately 14 to 16 cubic meters per second this week. The little rain received mid-week slightly bumped the Grand up a couple cubic meters. The Petite Cascapedia was in the range of 6-7 cubic meters per second. Although our rivers are on the lower end at the moment, we are seeing a nice number of salmon, especially in our low water holding pools and as I mentioned, the cooler evenings and water conditions are giving them some additional energy!
The most productive wet flies this week have been the Stone Ghost, Green Machine, Blue Charm and Green Highlander in sizes 8, 10 and 12. Dry flies are still a favorite at this time however. The Bombers in colours Light blue, Green and Brown in sizes 4 and 6 are always a hit as well!
Stay Safe & Tight Lines,
Julia
