River Report

The Club’s Fishing & River Report August 24th to August 30th, 2020

Another week has come and gone in the blink of an eye. We welcomed all new guests to The Club on the Bonaventure and I think it’s safe to say that they enjoyed themselves both on and off the river! The fishing was a little more challenging due to our weather conditions but on the bright side – even though the weather was a little warmer than we’d all prefer; salmon were landed and great memories were made!

We welcomed Richard Gareau as our guest for the first time at The Club this season! The Bonaventure River seemed to treat him well! Congrats on your wonderful catch Richard! Nicely done!

Once again, we had multiple days of rain promised this week that never came. Our days were filled with clear skies and sunshine, which is exactly what you want for a vacation but not so much a fishing trip. However, Thursday we were graced with some showers here and there that helped refresh the rivers and excite the salmon.

It was a pleasure having Marie-Helene as our guest in camp! She is an absolute joy and her hard work paid off on her last day on the river! Congrats Marie-Helene & Mark!

The Beautiful Bonaventure River is currently flowing at approximately 9 cubic meters per second. These levels are a little below the norm for the end of August but the little rain received helped bump the river and hopefully there is more where that came from!

Marie Benoit & Michel Arvisais brought laughter and joy to The Club this week! It was our honour to have you both as our guest this season! Here is Michel with a beautiful female landed on the Bonaventure River! Congrats Michel!

The Wonderful Grand Cascapedia River had the most positive outcome from the rain received on Thursday this week. It increased in levels from 15 to 25 cubic meters per second Thursday evening and into Friday morning. The Precious Petite Cascapedia River is consistently flowing at 9 cubic meters per second. This is a little below the norm for the Petite at the end of August but the Petite continues to deliver some great salmon!

The one environmental factor working in our favor at the moment is the cool evenings we’ve been having. Our temperatures can drop down to 8 degrees Celsius throughout the night which leaves our rivers in the range of 50 degrees in the mornings, nice and fresh for our salmon.

We welcomed the Beauchamp family to the Club this season for the first time! As first time Atlantic Salmon fishermen, they picked up the techniques of the sport with ease! Here is Dylan Beauchamp with his grilse landed on the Bonaventure River guide…

The most productive wet flies this week have been John Olin, Green Machine, Stone Ghost and Blue Charm in sizes 8 and 10. When it comes to bombers, the Blue and Dark Green are still getting the salmon’s attention!

Steve Zimmerman landed his personal best on the Petite Cascapedia this week and what a beauty she was! Congrats Steve! We hope to see you again next year!
